First of all be warned there is so much easy money floating around in Dubai that everything is expensive including your possible bedwarmer

The good news is that the hotels are guest tolerant and so you normally you will not have to pay extra for the guest

Logistics
The problem here is that everything is spread about so that you have to take a taxi everywhere , luckily the individual ride is cheap and they all run the meter , but if you are going to hit 3 or more spots in sequence then the bill will add up, also beware that the locals just love driving around in circles and so the traffic for what is essentially a small city can be horrible

Locations and decorum
Remember that you are in a soft Muslim country so that you should be covered up at all times ( no shorts ) Also there a far far more men than women in Dubai so the choice is limited BTW refrain from hitting on the black clad young local Muslim girls as they may not appreciate it ( even though some are quite nice looking ) Also the locals do not drink so there is not an abundance of watering holes Look at the local" time" out magazine for a comprehensive list of" licensed" spots Most of these will be in hotels which seem to be able to get an alcohol license more easily

Hotels and clubs
90 pct or more of the clubs are in hotels Many of the clubs cater for the indigenous population and therefore are Indian 60 pct of the population or Arab 15 pct

The Indian clubs are basically playing Hindi pop and have CIS ( Russian ) girls dressed up in Hindi garb and wiggling on a stage I suspect that they are available for take out later on but am not totally sure as this wasn't my scene

The arab clubs have men sitting around smoking water pipes and drinking tea or coffee and listening to the latest Arab vibes

There are a certain nr of lively expat bars with usa and English clientele and live music One I visited was the Rock bottom with a biker theme in the regent palace hotel The ladies there are pretty average and not the take out type

There are several philippina bars which mainly cater for the local phil expats and serve phil food and music They can be free or cost 50 dhm to get in The phil girls are mostly accompanied by their male counterparts( more is the pity ) Locations at Delmon hotel Ramee guestline hotel Nihal hotel an expat phil bar is at the Meredian airport hotel called Jules Bar

Nightclub on its own; all the taxis know it Cyclone ,entry cost 85 dhm men and 60 for ladies Step in here and the world turns upside down There are 2 island bars Left island is all Chinese ( about 200 or so ) some quite nice looking Cost is min 800 dhm Right island is all Russian CIS about 100 or so and cost is similar, my point of view is that they are rougher looking, smoke all the time and weigh twice as much There are no regular girls in this club

On the coast road, has a Phil bar and band entrance at the back of the hotel Several Chinese here , cost about 400 or so if you are patient and speak nicely

Has a disco with a few on the prowl , very expensive more that 1000dhm

Ground floor bar with some rough looking take aways 1st floor very big disco with interesting mix of Chinese 50 pct, Russian 25 pct, Ethiopian 15 pct, djibouti 10 pct about 250 in total some cute ones here and the djibouti ones look great A younger colleage had an offer for 300 dhm

Astoria hotel Bur
similar to the york but about 100 Girls

President and Imperial ( not visited by me ) but have it on good authority that there is plenty there too, mostly Chinese

Note the prices tend to decline as the night goes on and they get desperate for a client

So there you have it , not as good as Thailand or phil but if you're stuck there there is something to do at night As usual keep your money in your safe and only take what you need

48 hours in BAHRAIN – 15 Feb 2007

Ok Warren, time to start building the MPH credit!

Checked in around 3pm at Windsor Hotel. (good deal around 60 USD) The usual formalities and then though I had not much for baggage, I let the bellhop / doorman take me up to the room. Once inside he asked if I required anything else.... I asked if he knew any girls. I was offered Thai, Pinoy, Russian, Ethiopian and Indonesian. Since I had only done one other Indonesian, I asked him to send me one with a sweet disposition. He uses the room phone, hangs up and says she will be here in 30 min! Gave the man a $10 tip

So I shower and precisely 30 min there she is, petite, 18-20ish about an 8 or so.
She showers and does a very nice half and half. Then is content to curl up and take a nap for an hour or so. Ran around $80 USD.

Around 1700, wake up my friend in his room and we head out to the Suk. Right on the edge of the SUK is the Adari Hotel. Most cab drivers know it. The Adari has my favorite pub. Hunters lodge. U can get good food and great beer there. They play lots of classic rock and country. Have been going there for years when I visit.
Our food comes and down the bar I see two Asian cuties, I send them drinks and immediately one comes over to talk, We hang out and Party, I ask her back but she says she has to be home. But agrees to show up next morning at 9 am and gives me her #. Yeah right. She seems to be there with a crew of about 5 girls. No sweat. Hunters closes around 11 so we go upstairs to Tabasco Charlie’s. Nice place, lots of Thai and pinay FL's. I meet a nice Pinay and she comes back with me for the night.
Wonderful time, another half and half and then cuddle till morning.

Get rid of her before 9, but the Thai Honey is a no show like I figured. So we go out shop, get food etc. end up late afternoon back at Hunters lodge. Can't beet the Windsor Hotel, I would be interested to know if many of the hotels in Bahrain are as well staffed. Adari is great to for room to entertainment proximity

Visited last year, the folks in the previous post are spot on with the Cyclone, Hyatt, and York hotel is wonderful. Check into your room, and then go shop around in the hotel bar.
For me Dubai kind of worked like Malaysia, collect cell phone #'s from the girls as you go, they like to network
The Mall

Dubai is growing like crazy and it seems to be built by laborers from P.I. India and Pakistan. There is a wonderful mall south of the city called Ibin Battuta Mall http://www.ibnbattutamall.com/ which is worth visiting in its own right, opened in 2005 is divided into 6 areas each with its own country theme.

Now virtually all of the shop girls are Filipina’s. Some of them, and be careful, because it is only some, like to supplement their income. I like to roll into a shop and talk to the cuties. If you can string together a couple of tagalong phrases it surprises them, and this invariably gets a conversation going. One thing leads to another, ask them out for coffee or a meal on their break, get the cell # ! they text when ready and then one thing leads to another...

Another thing that worked well for me in Dubai was that I was traveling with a Filipino friend. We would go to one of the many Filipino restaurants to eat, in the course of the meal he would chat with the owner in tagalong, and damn near every time we would leave, hop into a cab and he would be dialing up some girls on his cell. Average price we paid was $80 USD. They would meet us in a car or taxi with a selection of 3 or 4 and we would make our selections and take them to our hotel.
Also have a Filipino associate who is an engineer. He was kind enough to entertain us in his apartment, also a brand new one, it was guess where, a few blocks behind the mall. We showed up there with a carton of Marlboro, and a bottle of Johnny Black and he was delighted. He made a call and 5 Filipinas showed up in short order for "karaoke". All of them were up for a short time. I suspect that many of the shop girls like to supplement their income with part time FL work.

Dubai I liked, the sky line was amazing, I was in the back of a car flying down the freeway one night looking at the buildings and thinking that this looked like something out of Rober Heinlien novel.

Field report of North Vietnam - Hanoi & Haiphong City

My field report from Hanoi and Haiphong

I have been working in Vietnam for almost a year now. Here is some of my experience regarding location and price. Please understand that this report and suggestion are based from my own experience. Some people who may disagree with me, you are welcome to give your comment.

Hanoi - The capital City of Vietnam. Less develop than Saigon, but it is where the central government is located. There is many hotel that offer massages and Karaoke. There is also Night Clubs and Disco places in the central City of Hanoi. This is the place where to start.

For Karaoke, go to Lakeside Hotel. They have the best collection of Karaoke Girls in town. You may also book the girl after the place close (around midnight) the cost is usually start at US$100 for all night and US$50 for short time. For all night the girls usually will let you have maximum 3 sessions (4 if they really like you). The time is from midnight to 7 in the morning. You don't need to tip the girls, the payment you made to the mama-san in the karaoke place is all-in price. The girls usually gives better service, but many are inexperienced and may not willing to do the things you wanted them to do.

For Massage, I don't really recommend them because usually the massage is bad and the girls only offers hand-job. For foreigner, the girls will ask for high tip, and it just not worth to try. Better ask for regular massage if you really need them.

For nightclubs, the best one I think is "New Century". If you go to the second floor, the girls are on the right side of the bar, if you are facing the dancing area. Please avoid the aggressive girl, because usually they are well experience and may cheat on you. You have to look for the shy girl or the quite ones. They mostly don't talk English, but if you can find a girl who can speak English, you may ask her to get you the girl that you like. Off course you must tip this "translator" or buy her drink. For the tip, US$10 is more than enough. If you have local currency, you may give 50,000VND or about US$3. Regarding the price its negotiable. The girls usually ask for US$100 but you can usually get them for US$50 for short time. For all night usually will depend on the girls, if they like you they may willing to stay longer, or they will try to finish as soon as possible, so the service is not guaranteed. Sometimes, if you're lucky you can get very good service, better get her phone number for future encounter.

Hai Phong - It is a modern port city located about an hour from Hanoi by car. There is a local tourist area in Hai Phong called "Doson". In Doson, there is a famous Red District Area (like Geylang in Singapore). Please ask your local guide or your local business partner for the direction.

In Doson brothel area, one hour with a girl will cost you 100,000VND or about Sin $10. If you are a regular/local the price will go down to 80,000VND/hour/girl or about Sin $8. The price include the room price too. First you must find the house you like, go in and wait for the girl to come by. Some houses have in-house girls, but if you don't like them, many will pass the house by bicycles or motorcycles. The owner of the house also will call girls from different house to come to your house. Just take your time to select the girls, there are hundreds of them to select and if you want you can get 2 or 3 girls to come with you at the same time. Just multiply the cost.

The girls in Doson changed every 3 months. Some may stay for a couple of years but its very rare. The new girls will be timid and shy sometimes they may want to stop early if they hurt, the old girls will be heavily damaged and used. If you select properly, you can get girls with enough experience but still fresh enough. So please ask the owner of the house regarding the type of girl you desires. If you decided to go to this area you should know that the people in his area are usually only speak Vietnamese and Chinese (mandarin). So please bring someone who can be a translator for you.

Last week went out. started in a few beer places, having done a recce of some previous spots, decided on a secluded spot called Rockefellers, its a nightclub environment and doesn't even start to get busy until 1100.

Other one is the disco under the grand Hyatt north of the river Very posh and high class Korean ladies there, too many westerners to my liking Some high end freelancers too

San Diego / Long Bach California report

The last time I was in San Diego was back in 2001 when I retired from the Navy. I was stationed there from 1994 to 1997 November and the place was happening, at least at the bar I went to and my last time partying in Long Beach was July 1997. So here is was 4 years later and I was looking forward to heading back and checking out the places again.

So I arrive in San Diego about 5 pm after the train ride down from L.A. I get to my hotel, the Vagabond which is right next to one of my hang outs by the name of Blue Heaven. I decided to make this my last stop for night since it was the closet. About 8pm I head out to the first club, Coin Toss the bar I just about lived in for a year and a half. I walk in and what so I see? Nothing much, what a sad sight it was. Then I thought well it is a Monday and maybe it is just a slow night which could happen. So giving it a chance I had a seat and ordered up my first beer.

I noticed that the place had be remolded from what I recalled with pictures of lady hung behind the bar. After a few minutes the waitress made it over to and got my order and that was it. Not the same friendly greeting I remembered from my olden days there. So there I am looking around with 3 other customers and 3 girls tending bar. None were friendly at least to me at first but after my second beer one did start to talk a bit but nothing worth a damn.

I found out that the old owner sold the place about 2 years ago and the only person left was a girl named “Leya”, who has worked there for about 10 years now. I talked to the new owner a lady that use to work at Hi-Ball which I use to know.

So after that I headed down the street to another hot spot named “Formosa”. Now this pace was known to be a happening place any night of the week, great girls and good crowd. NOT, again empty for its size about 6 customers and 4 girls which all had bad attitudes in my book and going by their looks they really needed to lighten up a lot to get anyone to talk to them.

So now it about 10 or 10:30 and I am starting to wonder, “What the fuck is going on?” well with no place close by due to several other hangouts being closed in the area the next leap for a good time would be a taxi cab ride I decided to move up from the beer to my Chives and hope it eased the pain I was going though. Well after 3 doubles on the rocks it just hurt too much so I got a cab and got the hell out of there.

Next stop, Imperial Beach to see what was going on there, surly something had to be going on there. Again several places closed, good places too. The road ended with me at “Honey Ko”. Time 11pm, customers 2 me and one other clown, bartenders, 1, this really sucks!

The only good part is I ran in to a guy LA that I know back in 96/97 and we got caught up on the past years, he too was leaving SD for a job back east some place.
After leaving Honey Ko I stopped in Whirly Bird to really drown my sorrows and this places was even worst so 1 beer and I was gone. Back in a cab and the final stop Blue Heaven,

If any place would be like it was I would have bet a pay check this is the spot. So we pull in to the parking lot and head for the bar and the parking lot was fucking empty!!
I go in side, don’t ask me why? And most of the lights are off and it is only 12:30am no one is there in the way of customers. I was so bad off I was buying the damn bouncer drinks. Yep that’s right the bouncer, why he was there only the owner and god knows. So a few beers there and home I go.

What a depressing night. The area was completely dead. Now with only 5 Navy ships in port I’m sure didn’t help any but god damn to make it that bad?

Of the girls I saw on the 1 to 10 scale I would have to rate 1 a 4 and that is fucking generous. So I’m not missing shit in Sad Dog and anymore.

I spent 3 days in S.D. and never when out any more, no need.
I hit L.A on Thursday I made it out on Friday night, Could go wrong on a Friday night could you, will you would think so would you?

First stop my number watering-hole Barracuda’s time 6pm I walk in and it looks the same as the day I left. Since it was early the fact that no girls were was normal so no big deal. Everything is looking good so far. The bartender a Mexican lady was friendly enough so that is a good sign. Next stop Singapore Nights 3 block away, I arrived and the name had changed it was now called the Unicorn club where you entered from the back, nothing here but drunk old people talking shit. One beer and I’m gone.

30 minute walk to the next stop if it is still there, Kim Mi’s.

So I see Kim Mi’s four blocks away which for this night is a good sign! I walk in and everything was the same, Kim saw still working along with 2 other Asian girls and 3 customers so for 8pm that was pretty good. I had my self and cold Bud and enjoyed the satellite Tv they had which had over 800 channels. After a while a few more guys showed up seeking the dancers which were to be there in and hour or so.

A few girls came in and sat at the bar for a short time then departed after about 20 minutes, I guess they were looking or waiting for someone. Since smoking in not allowed in the bars I had to go out side for puff. While I was out there I saw the girls milling around this car still waiting so I knew in time they would be returning and maybe the night would liven up. So I go back in side to warm up and over hear this guy asking of Mercy would be coming into night? Now when I was hangout out at Barrcuda’s there is a girl named Mercy working there too. Knowing the area and how the girls moved from bar to bar I wondered if it could be the same one. But hell it had been 7 years and she should have moved on by now plus she would be in her low 50’s if not older.

So there I am out side for about smoke when a car parks and a girl gets out, yep it’s Mercy, a bit older but not much else had changed I spotter her right off. As she got closer she couldn’t believe it as I said “Hi Mercy!” she seemed happy enough to see maybe because before I was a big spender and she saw money for the night coming in.
We go inside and I get her a drink and we talk about what has being going in the area with the bars. After a few drinks and no dancers showing up I decided to head home for the night.

Maybe if I had a car, more time, and more cash my time in California would have been a lot better but it wasn’t. It really sucked overall. It was then I realized that living in Singapore / Asia for me is one of my better choices in life.

Compare the US to Singapore:
While both of places have their advantages at the same time there are disadvantages too.

Too bad stuff like that doesn't happen in Singapore but then it wouldn't be nice and clean and shit works there. Getting burned out on Bangkok. I might go to Jakarta for a week and maybe Bali, will have to see how much it cost. I just got back from 10 days in fucking Vietnam, what a shit whole that place is. People are just as stupid as they were 35 years and lots of pickpockets and idiots running around Saigon (6 million people and about 4 million honking screeching motorbike---like hornets swarming around you in the cross walk) I can't believe that i spend almost 6 years there during the war, but having the base facilities was what kept me there now. It is pretty clean but not shit to do except for drinking and they roll up the streets at midnight and in Laos they roll them up about 11 PM. But both places are half as expensive as BKK. SO I guess you get what you pay for????

I was walking around by the Mekong river yesterday and thought to myself, "Steve you are hot and tired--why not stop and have a cool drink". I had walked down a dirt road and came across this little restaurant that stuck out over the bank of the river. There was a rich Chinese guy from Cambodia, who lived in Australia there and I decided to have a beer and talk to him. Well, in Laos they don't make small bottle beers, just the big ones and I hadn't had any food since morning breakfast and I drank down the first bottle of cold beer in two or three gulps, then got another. As it turned out just then the sun was perfect and I got this photo which is the form of SOLARIZE--whatever that does to the camera. I thought the photo "River" was nice and thought i would share it with you. It is a photo of a wooden table, with Lao Beer and just when I took the photo of the sun shinning on the Mekong river, a fisherman's boat came into the fame. Worked out perfect. Except later I had another LAO big beer with dinner that cost me an arm & Leg in this French Restaurant--well maybe the tip of my finger not actually an arm and leg--since the beer, salad, meal and dessert was only $6.00 total (please see pic #894F). But to someone from Laos that could be a weeks wages. It is 1700 hours and time to do more exploring of Vientiane, Laos.

Here are two photos of Phi Phi Island beaches. I saw the photos and thought how terrible it must have been to be out in this beautiful water when one gets taken out to sea or thrown against the side of a tree at 80mph when the wave that hit the island just about killed everybody nearby.

They are not allowing the Europeans to get access to places near the beaches now because all the dead people are in not too good a shape and they can't be unidentified anymore except though dental or DNA, but relatives are still coming by the thousands to see if they can find their lost ones, which is taking up the time of the Thai authorities in dealing with these people.
In a hundred years not too many people will care about this small event in our time--will they?

And they are excellent with large quanties of Cambodian Ankor beer. Beer here is expensive at 7000-8000 riels a pitcher that’s $1.75-$1.95 US, in a restaurant. I think the pitcher or JUG they call it here is about 1.5 liters. In Bangkok the same beer is 130 Baht or about $3.30 in a beer garden and it was 330 baht in a nice restaurant. I don't know how much a pitcher or beer is in America, where they sell piss water beer that has no flavor, but it is probably around $6.00??? I had dinner last night in a nice restaurant near the river with two beers 0.50 liter beers and toasted grill ham and cheeze sandwich+ lots of French fries and it was $5.00

Leaving to morrow to go back to Bangkok from Cambodia.
